How long will therapy take?
The amount of time individuals would spend in therapy depends on several factors, the most important being the nature and length of the difficulties experienced by each individual client. Depending on the severity of the problem and the type of therapy selected, psychotherapy can require a few sessions or much longer. Generally, short-term counselling (18 sessions or less) is often sufficient to gain relief of specific symptoms, while long-term psychotherapy is better suited for more complex disturbances and/or deeper personality issues.

Regularity of sessions and Cancellation Policy
Once you have agreed to therapy, I will reserve a weekly time slot (of 50 minutes) for you. This is so that I can set aside the same time for you each week. If you need to change the time of an appointment, I will try my best to accommodate your request. Missed or cancelled sessions are chargeable. No fee will be applied if a cancellation is received 48 hours or more prior to appointment time, otherwise the full fee is payable.

Health Insurance
Please check with your health provider before embarking on sessions to make sure your policy is valid and that your sessions will be covered in full. You will be responsible for payment of all outstanding charges on your account, regardless of the cover you have. Health providers will not accept invoices for missed or cancelled sessions and you will be responsible for any such charges incurred.

Holidays
I will give you as much notice as possible of holidays and other absences and you will not be charged for my absences.

Fees
I see people for an initial session to establish whether or not I think I can help, and whether a mutually convenient consulting time is possible. After that, if we decide to work together, weekly sessions lasting 50 minutes are arranged. If you would like some information about my fees (initial consultation and further sessions), please contact me either by telephone or email. Some concessions are available for those on low incomes.

Confidentiality
Our sessions are confidential. However, I am under legal obligation to inform the relevant parties if you are a danger to yourself or to others. Before the disclosure of any such information, I would nevertheless make sure to discuss the matter with you. I will be in supervision as part of my commitment to good practice but the duty of confidentiality extends to my clinical supervisor.
